Universiti Brunei Darussalam and Oxford Green Innotech Limited Sign Groundbreaking MoU to Enhance Research and Academic Collaboration
Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) commences a significant collaboration with Oxford Green Innotech (OXGRIN) through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at advancing sustainable energy technologies. This event took place on Tuesday, October 29, 2024, at UBD, where Vice Chancellor Dr. Hazri bin Haji Kifle represented the university, while Oxgrin was represented by Dr. Simson Wu, Chief Executive Officer and co-founder of OXGRIN.
Through this partnership, UBD and Oxgrin will explore research and innovation on clean energy solutions in particular hydrogen energy. Oxgrin, a spin-off company from the University of Oxford, is a global pioneer in zero-emission hydrogen production through patented catalytic ammonia decomposition technology. Oxgrin’s ammonia-powered generator, currently in use at UBD, demonstrates this groundbreaking approach to produce green electricity using ammonia as a fuel, providing a practical application of zero-emission technology in Brunei. By combining Oxgrin’s technical expertise with UBD’s research capabilities and facilities, the MoU aims to enhance research initiatives in sustainable energy and the development of green technologies in Brunei Darussalam. The collaboration also seeks to promote awareness and adoption of sustainable energy practices through joint initiatives and educational programs. This strategic alliance not only aims to advance research in sustainable energy but also enriches the educational experiences for UBD’s students and staff. Utilizing OXGRIN’s innovative ammonia-powered technology will bolster UBD’s reputation as a centre of excellence in sustainable energy research while contributing to Brunei’s green economy.
Professor Basilios Tsikouras, the Director of Research at Universiti Brunei Darussalam, expressed his enthusiasm and commented on the collaboration with Oxford Green Innotech (OXGRIN), stating, “This partnership is a significant step forward in our mission to advance sustainable energy research. By integrating OXGRIN’s innovative technologies with our academic resources, we are poised to enhance both research and educational opportunities for our students and faculty.”
Dr. Simson Wu, CEO and Co-founder of Oxford Green Innotech Limited (Oxgrin) echoed the sentiment, stating “We are thrilled to formalize our partnership with the University of Brunei Darussalam (UBD). This signing ceremony marks a significant step forward in our shared commitment to sustainable energy solutions in Southeast Asia. Following the successful feasibility tests, Oxgrin’s ammonia-powered generator has been deployed to Brunei and is currently operating in collaboration with UBD. By combining our expertise and resources, we aim to make impactful advancements in reducing carbon emissions, providing greener, more accessible energy options that can benefit communities across the region.”
Both UBD and OXGRIN are committed to establishing a long-term partnership that will pave the way for future innovations and commercial opportunities in the realm of sustainable energy technologies. This collaboration represents a significant opportunity to merge industry innovation with academic research, fostering advancements in sustainable energy solutions and supporting Brunei’s efforts to achieve its renewable energy objectives.
