Summary of UBD Sustainability Masterplan
The Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) Sustainability Masterplan outlines a comprehensive and visionary roadmap to embed sustainability into every facet of the University’s operations, academic programs, research initiatives, and community engagements. This Masterplan aligns with with global sustainability frameworks, notably the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and aims to position UBD as a leader in sustainable development within Brunei Darussalam and globally.
The Masterplan emphasises the interdependence of environmental, social, and economic sustainability, with each component essential to creating a balanced and thriving ecosystem. UBD’s vision aligns with Wawasan Brunei 2035, aiming for a high quality of life and a dynamic, sustainable economy. The plan commits to integrating sustainability across all University activities, from operations and infrastructure to education and research, fostering a culture of sustainability that prepares future leaders to address global challenges.
The Masterplan outlines five key pillars as fundamental aspects for UBD to address:
1. Driving Innovation through Sustainability Research
2. Cultivating Sustainability Champions through Transformative Education
3. Futuring Sustainability through Green Campus
4. Sustainable Stewardship through Visionary Governance
5. Empowering Sustainable and Resilient Communities through Engagement and Partnership
UBD emphasises the importance of monitoring and evaluation to track progress, identify areas for improvement, and celebrate successes. The Masterplan includes the implementation of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to measure success, regular sustainability reporting, and periodic reviews of the masterplan. Transparency and open communication are prioritised, with sustainability reports shared publicly to ensure accountability.
The Masterplan envisions UBD as a beacon of sustainability by 2035, influencing both local and global sustainability efforts. This vision is built on a holistic understanding of sustainability, integrating it into every aspect of University life. UBD commits to continuous improvement through interdisciplinary collaboration, partnerships, and community engagement. The UBD Sustainability Masterplan is a transformative vision that aims to empower future leaders, foster partnerships, and create a sustainable legacy.
