Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) actively measures interdisciplinary research success across science disciplines, as evidenced by its recognition in the Times Higher Education Interdisciplinary Science Rankings, where it ranked 142nd globally and excelled in Southeast Asia for funding, facilities, and high-quality publications that foster interdisciplinary collaboration. UBD ranked 18th in Southeast Asia for producing high-quality interdisciplinary research publications and 7th for processes promoting collaboration across diverse scientific disciplines. These rankings are based on metrics such as Field-Weighted Citation Impact, interdisciplinary reputation surveys, and contributions to fields like Computer Science, Engineering, Life Sciences, and Physical Sciences. Additionally, UBD supports interdisciplinary engagement including beyond core sciences, bridging Social Sciences, Health Sciences, Arts, and Humanities to address global challenges such as education policy and public health. These efforts demonstrate UBD’s commitment to fostering innovation through interdisciplinary collaboration. Our university fosters a vibrant interdisciplinary research environment through well-defined strategic thrusts. We actively support these initiatives by providing dedicated funding and state-of-the-art facilities, enabling our researchers to collaborate effectively across disciplines.
Moreover, to measure the success of interdisciplinary research, UBD tracks key metrics such as the number of papers published in high-impact journals, the diversity of co-authors from different disciplines, and the citation impact of these publications and we publish these data in our website. Furthermore, UBD assesses how many of these papers address the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), ensuring that research outcomes contribute meaningfully to global sustainability challenges.
