modalities using polymerase chain reaction, real-time PCR, fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, electrochemical, electrochemiluminescence, fluorescence, metal thin-films, papers, nanoparticles and magnetic beads etc. The biochemical and bio analytical methods which are being developed at our laboratory will ultimately facilitate the determination of halal (permissible)\/haram (non-permissible)\/tayyeb foods and their ingredients, pathogens, hormones, antibiotics, allergens etc. Our current projects also provide a unique environment for young Bruneian in ground-breaking undergraduate and graduate level training and research.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>Potential impact and relevance to society: Biosensor is an analytical device which converts a biological response into interpretable signals. In most recent years, innovation made on nanotechnology and biotechnology has resulted in more sophisticated biosensors development. However, the majority of the commercial food products in Brunei are yet being imported from abroad. Hence, there is a risk of food frauds to be aware of by the public. Our goal is to develop highly sensitive, highly specific, rapid, portable and robust detection systems that can be employed for onsite monitoring during Halal food inspection and validation. <\/span><\/span><\/li><li><span class=\"s1ppyq\"><b><span lang=\"EN-GB\" style=\"background: white;\">Microbial analysis<\/span><\/b><span lang=\"EN-GB\" style=\"background: white;\">: We are interested in working on the detection of food borne pathogen using various strategies. Besides, local plants are more susceptible to dangerous diseases caused by microbes infections.
