Continuing its commitment to advancing knowledge and fostering interdisciplinary learning particularly in emerging space technologies, Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) hosted a special lecture series featuring experts from Space Faculty, Singapore.<\/p>

Held on 8th<\/sup>\u00a0April 2026 at the Senate Room, Chancellor Hall, UBD, the event brought together UBD students, college students, and government officials for an engaging session on satellite engineering and space technology.<\/p>

Dr Malik Nauman, Deputy Dean of Academic and Student Affairs at the Faculty of Integrated Technologies (FIT), UBD highlighted in his welcoming remarks the importance of exposing students and the wider community to developments in advanced technologies that are shaping the future.<\/p>

The special lecture series was graced by Dr Hazri Haji Kifle, UBD Vice-Chancellor, as the guest of honour. Also in attendance was Dr Haji Abdul Hanif Dato Paduka Haji Mahadi, UBD Assistant Vice-Chancellor (Research, Innovation and Sustainability). Also present were distinguished guests from Space Faculty, Singapore, namely Lynette Tan, Chief Executive Officer; Cedric Ng, Director of Business Development; and Nelson Tan, Mechanical Engineer.<\/p>

The highlight of the programme was the lecture delivered by Nelson Tan, a Mechanical Engineer at Space Faculty, a Singapore-based Small Medium Entreprise (SME) driving innovation in the space and technology sector. His professional work focuses on spacecraft structural design, precision manufacturing, and system integration.<\/p>

Prior to joining Space Faculty, Tan served as a Research Engineer at Thales Solutions Asia and Nanyang Technological University\u2019s Satellite Research Centre (NTU SaRC). At NTU, he played an instrumental role in the development of VELOX-AM, a collaborative mission between A*STAR\u2019s Advanced Remanufacturing and Technology Centre (ARTC) and NTU that demonstrated 3D printing technology and advanced space materials in orbit. His responsibilities included mechanical design, Computer Numerical Control (CNC) fabrication, and environmental testing to ensure compliance with European Cooperation for Space Standardisation (ECSS) and National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) launch standards.<\/p>

Drawing on this multidisciplinary background, Tan delivered a lecture on satellite engineering, offering participants insight into spacecraft design, structural systems, and the practical challenges of developing reliable space technologies. This was followed by an interactive CubeSat exhibit, which gave attendees a hands-on introduction to core spacecraft components and their functions.<\/p>

The lecture series served as a valuable platform for knowledge-sharing between academia, industry, and the broader community. It also reflected UBD\u2019s ongoing efforts to broaden educational experiences for students and to strengthen regional and international engagement in science, technology, and innovation.<\/p>
